Aunt Peg’s Molasses Cookies

1 cup shortening

1 cup sugar

1 cup molasses

4 teas. baking soda

2 teas. ginger

2 teas. cinnamon

½ teas. cloves

¼ teas. nutmeg

1 teas. salt

2-6 cups flour

1 cup sour milk (add a T. lemon juice to milk)

 

Cream shortening and sugar.  Add molasses, then spices.  Add two cups of flour alternately with sour milk.  Then add enough flour to make a soft dough.  Roll and cut into shapes.  Sprinkle with sugar and bake for 5-8 minutes at 375 degrees.
